General Chat – Jun 9

I’m on hols for a while, seeking warmer climes, and will be without a TV (shock, horror!).
Time for a West Wing rewatch on the Ipad, methinks – it’s our holiday go-to show.

What are you watching?

  1. I used to love West Wing and then the President, otherwise known as Jed Clampett, was given more and more lines and spoilt the whole show. Almost unbearable to watch any scene he was in. And he could never put on a coat properly. Nails down a blackboard.
I have just discovered Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I know, late to the party.

    • I was late on Kimmy Schmidt too. That’s because at first I thought lame and hammy acting, but when Miss 11 and I started watching, I got into it and we had a mini marathon.

I am currently enjoying Trollied, which I thought had shades of the Office and Woolif noted it was like a modern Are You Being Served? Give it a go. It’s fun. It has Bubble from Ab Fab, but my favourite is Margaret, the senior. She does senior moments beautifully.

  2. I watched 2 episodes of the Korean version of the Good Doctor. Amazing how the storylines are nearly identical.. The main character I think is a better actor/fit than the US version, but I’m new to Korean tv shows, so its probably cliche after cliche for the jaded. Oh and the new season of US masterchef is shite, lots of stupid pretend argy bargy between the guest judges (Joe the douchebag is back)

  3. I just read somewhere that Jarrod from the Bachelor franchise has a new role spruiking pasta sauce.

I did laugh at the final comment of the article. “After all, he very well acquainted with tomatoes. He spent most of his time in Paradise looking the same shade as one.” That was gold.

Hope you’re enjoying your holiday Juz :). Looks divine.

      • Fancy blowing up like that on tv. She should have looked at her facial expressions in a mirror. But wait….she would make a great rtv star. They could put her on Survivor or TAR….once she had semi passed the psych test. “Ah nope!” “Ah yep”. She sure wasn’t intimidated by Phil. 😂

    • I just don’t know how to feel about this one, to be honest. For a start, the Honey-badger needs a haircut and a shave (that mo is just … I can’t deal at all). And is it just me, or does it feel like the show has started to parody itself? Like, there’s just no way to take it seriously anymore, and given the franchise doesn’t have much reason to take itself seriously in the first place, they don’t have a lot of ground to give up, there. Not to mention, Sophie’s season was just so horrid (and it’s great she found Stu, and stayed with him as long as the contract she signed told her to), and it’s like they just decided, let’s amp up the ridiculousness even more.

At least it’s not Shane Warne. Grateful for that, at least.

      • it’s definitely now more a show about people promoting themselves rather than actually trying to find a partner – more Americanised

  4. Ratings tonight will be interesting. Ma$terchef, House Rules, State Of Origin, One Day Cricket, World Cup…….

  5. Sorry I have been slack with my comments. I started watchinbb The Affair on stan.

But I am sitting having coffee at the VAT so it’s a good time to do my B&B post.

      • What a shame I’m too old. Vintage on me now just looks like I am wearing an old dress. 😂

      • I’d trip over the slip so the dress would be ridiculous on me. I do have the advantage though of sometimes being able to buy long shirts and wear them as dresses.

    • Ha ha, I thought you were getting cranky because I didn’t answer quickly:).

Yes, I’m in Perth. It’s similar weather here, mild, sunny, and no bloody wind for a change. After spending part of the morning weeding, I’m going to go out now and enjoy the rest of the afternoon.

      I love Bunbury/Busselton area.

  6. Watch out for this one on July 18 on ABC on You Can’t Ask That – that’s Millsy in the pic – MILLSY!

  7. Hey Juz I thought I would post this publicly in case other people are wondering as well.
I would really like to help by clicking on ads but want to make sure you get the benefit. is it any ads that appear on the talkingtv page or just the ones that appear within the comments section?
i.e. Do the banners at the top or on the side of the page count for you?

    • Good idea. I am getting a lot of domain ads currently – does TT sense that I am looking for a change! I click on them constantly, lol.

      • I googled reusable drinking straws yesterday, so guess what I’m getting ads for? Some of them look cool, actually

        • Go to kmart Juz. They have great paper straws that are really strong and only about $2 for a pack of about 30. You cld get lots of drinks out of each straw if you want to be economical.

  8. Anyone watch You Can’t Ask That tonight? That show is always interesting, but tonight was…heartbreaking, compelling, powerful…I can’t find the right word.

I burst into tears after seeing the note at the end.

  9. I’ve been quiet on ttv lately, mostly because I’m not watching MC and MKR anymore, but also because Woolif and I have been busy ttrying to save our semi rural area from Mainroads slapping their freeway right through us, rather than around.

  10. So proud of Woolif, out of his comfort zone. Someone slapped a sign in his hand because he hadn’t brought one. I put the coffee in his other hand.

  11. The circles are homes surrounded by bushland; 1, 5 and 10 acres. Further south is vacant land. And Main Roads insist on taking the yellow route.

  12. Juz, we started watching Killing Eve last night and watched about 3 or 4 eps. Is she meant to be useless? I can’t see why the spy agency would choose her, unless it’s as a patsy.

  13. The fat is hitting the fan and one councillor stands out. On Wednesday, prior to the Council meeting, the Main Roads BORR team came in to give the Councillors and CEO a private briefing on the Bunbury Outer Ring Road.
It was very interesting. They gave us some new information which is very relevant to the current debate on whether the southern part of proposed route going through the suburb of Gelorup is the best available option.
Then they told us this information was “confidential” and asked us not to tell anyone about it.
I have thought long and hard about this since. I wonder why it was considered “confidential”, and about what interests are being protected. I wonder whether I have any obligation to observe confidentiality, when it is imposed on me by Main Roads, who I have no responsibility to.
Finally, I decided that for me to join in an agreement to keep this information secret from ratepayers would be contrary to the Oath I swore when I became a councillor which was to represent and help the residents, ratepayers and electors of the area to the best of my ability.
So here it is; the information the Main Roads BORR wants to keep secret from you…
THEY ARE CONSIDERING A NEW ALERNATIVE ROUTE, WHICH DOES NOT GO THROUGH GELORUP.
They did not want to. They are doing this because the current route through Gelorup, which they plan to build on threatens habitat of critically endangered Western Ringtail Possums. New Federal Environmental Legislation requires that Main Roads demonstrates they have properly considered other alternatives prior to developing a highway where the possums will be affected.
The BORR team made it clear they are hoping to show that the alternative route is no better, environmentally, so they can continue with the current route cutting through Gelorup.
I believe consideration of an alternative route should be thorough and genuine. Note: This alternative route, which they showed us on a map, is not one of the alternatives considered previously.
Summing up the situation, I will in future let Main Roads and anyone else who wants to brief Council confidentially, to leave me out of any discussions they want kept from residents. Because I will always be loyal to ratepayers and residents first and foremost.

    • Only have an understanding of this issue from your posts, Daisy, but I’d advise you not to ask to be left out of discussions that they will ask to be kept confidential. One, you will miss out on information, and two, being a whistle blower is not always, or even often, a bad thing.

      • That wasn’t me. That was cooied from the fb of one of our councillors. He blew their secret plottings wide open. Whistle blower and popularwith the people.

    • So pleased to hear some good news of local people standing up for their area, Daisy. Here in NSW, a lot of us have given up. We finally got a State Gov who takes action, but the very sad trade-off is that they completely bulldoze over the local governments and the people.

Biggest tragedy in our area was that a historic school was persuaded to vacate waterfront land, with the promise of a world-class performing arts precinct and public space. In no time at all, the state government appointed themselves owners of that land and built two government office blocks (with no parking) and there is more space to place more ugly offices with water views. Meanwhile, they want the local council to bulldoze other well-used public space to build an inferior performing arts area. The locals and council fought this very hard, and we all now feel very betrayed, especially by the local state member who has sold the area to the vultures.

Congratulations on having such a great councillor, who takes their job so seriously to put their reputation on the line. We have some but they are tied by state gov.

      • Thanks Fijane. Govt at any level can sure be villains. I’m sorry your crew screwed you over. We have a tough fight ahead of us. And yeah, that councillor also only recently went out on a limb and stated publicly he disagreed with the Shire wanting to put our rates up another 28%. That’s 56% in two years, and then what? To turn us into freeway scrap heap?
They ended up going with a 6%. For that we get zilch. No street lights, footpaths, scheme water library (none of which we want) but wait…..we are told three weeks later, we will be getting sliced and diced with a freeway. My next poster will be a freeway that looks like a chainsaw. It will take me awhile to do it as good as I want it. I want to get it just right. I have already made tees out of Families not Freeways.
I really wish I could just chase them down the street and pull their hair.

BTW, that councillor went out on a limb for us both times.
